“I’m not sure when I’ll have this much money again. I should go ahead and get ‘the thing’.”
Have you ever said this?
Most people do after they get their tax refund or a bonus at work.
“The thing” could be:
-That new couch you’ve been wanting because the cat peed on yours one too many times
-That new outfit you’ve been eyeing on Amazon, but haven’t had an event to wear it to
-The new “toy” that your husband has been asking for that has wheels, or reminds him of good times
You make good money, but it seems to flow through your fingers and your savings account stays the same.
So, when you come into a lump sum, the thought of “OH! NOW is the time to get this!” and excitement and urgency squeeze your chest.
You buy it, and that extra money in your account goes POOF!
Here’s the thing.
You know your money goals of paying off debt, saving for your future, and putting money away for that vacation to Italy?
Those get pushed back. But NOT because the money could have gone towards those goals.
It’s because the mentality of “I have money now, and I should use it to get something,” is a sneaky tactic your brain uses because of a scarcity or lack mentality.
It’s a symptom that your brain is afraid to hold onto money, so it tries to get rid of it.
Which is why it seems like your bank account isn’t growing.
And a scarcity or lack mentality keeps your “capacity container” unable to handle larger sums of money.
So, when you DO come into more money than your “capacity container” can handle, your subconscious wants to get rid of it.
So, you spend it.
My husband and I used to fall into this trap.
We would get a tax refund, and no matter how we tried to spend it or save it, it was GONE within a few weeks.
We had to grow mindsets and change our beliefs about money, so it could stick around.
You may be asking, “So, how do I expand my “capacity container” so I CAN pay off this debt and grow my bank account?
This is what my clients and I work on with my Steward and Grow Method.
We dig into your beliefs about money, where they come from, and what needs to shift to ignite new money mindsets that allow you to hang onto AND grow your savings.
And, we put structure and organization in place for your money through a budget to give you permission to say YES to yourself, or NOT YET to honor your boundaries with your finances.
Christ follower, I know you’re ready to be in a position to live generously without stressing about paying the light bill.
You’re ready to stop living in a lack and scarcity mentality, and step into the abundance mindset that God has for you, so you can live generously and steward His resources well.
